Kathmandu Medical College functions from two complexes - Duwakot Basic Sciences and Sinamangal Clinical Sciences. The KMC Teaching Hospital, located within the ring-road and just near the airport, is in a position of easy access. Prof. Dr. Chanda Karki, a renowned Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the country, former Departmental Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology of the College and the past President of Nepal Society of obstetricians and Gynaecologist (NESOG), is the Principal. Dr. Kiran Prasad Rijal, is the Director of the KMC Teaching Hospital. Several of our teaching staffs have had considerable teaching experience in Medical Colleges in India and abroad.
KMC is permanently affiliated to Kathmandu University and fully recognized by the Nepal Medical Council (NMC) and the Sri Lanka Medical Council. The working experience at KMCTH is recognized to enable doctors to sit in the postgraduate entrance examinations held by other universities inside & abroad. Kathmandu Medical College has also been listed in the WHO’s World Directory of Medical Schools - electronic format as from June 2001. Following full recognition by NMC, KMC is listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED). KMC is also an Associate Member of the Network of Community Based Medical Schools that has its headquarters at Ghent in Belgium. Subsequently, graduates of KMC are also eligible to apply for a California Postgraduate Training Authorization Letter (PTAL) or a Physicians and Surgeons Certificate from August 2012.
Bogomolets National Medical University has been accredited by Medical Council of India, hence students passing from Bogomolets National Medical University are eligible for screening test by MCI.

Candidates who have completed 17 years of age at the time of their applications and who fulfill the following criteria are eligible to apply for the MBBS programme at KMC.
Completed 10+2 years of education or Intermediate of Science (I.Sc) or equivalent, with English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry as main subjects and having secured not less than 50% marks in the subjects mentioned above put together and an overall aggregate of 50%.
Completed the Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc) recognised by the University, with one of the following subjects viz. Physics, Chemistry, Biology and at least one other prescribed science subject of study up to the ancillary level and having scored not less than an overall aggregate of 50% marks, provided that such candidates shall have passed the earlier qualifying examination (10+2 or an equivalent examination) with the subjects of English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry.

Kathmandu Medical College has two spacious libraries- one for Basic Sciences and the other for Clinical Sciences. They have adequate number of books as well as many general, scientific and medical journals. Multiple copies of text books, Internet/E-mail connection and photocopying facility make it easier for the students and staff to retrieve the information that they want. The libraries also have self learning areas with videos and CD-ROMs for computer based learning. Additionally, each department has a smaller departmental library.
