The curriculum for Architectural Engineering is designed with a view to apply engineering principles to the construction, planning, and design of buildings and other structures. The curriculum puts emphasis on layout and aesthetics of building projects. It also trains the aspirants about other engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and others. The students are also taught various fundamental concepts including the strength of materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, electric circuits, and engineering economics. Students are also imparted knowledge about the history of architectural design.
Candidates who wish to pursue Architectural Engineering should have passed Higher Secondary Board Exam from a recognized board in India with aggregate 50 per cent marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

After getting a Bachelor’s degree one can go for Master’s degree. Most architects earn their professional degree through a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture degree programme, which is intended for students with no previous architectural training. Others earn a Master's degree after completing a Bachelor's degree in another field or after completing a pre-professional architecture programme. A Master's degree in architecture can take 1 to 5 years to complete depending on the extent of previous training in architecture.
If you are interested in academics, you can pursue postgraduate and doctoral programmes offered by some of the reputed institutes across the country. After graduation (B. Arch) students can take up higher studies like M. Arch, MCP or MBA. Undergraduates with a valid GATE Score can apply through PGCET to secure admission to M. Arch. Postgraduate degree gives you an opportunity to specialize in vast array of fields, ranging from urban design to sustainable architecture.
Architecture Engineering is one of the most significant sectors today. Currently, there is a huge demand and supply deficit in India for skilled professionals in architecture.
The job scenario in this sector include, safety management, site selection, field research and supervision, quality control, environmental planning, estimating and costing, supervision of construction work, interior decoration etc. Right from the designing and planning, the architect plays a key role in the overall construction of the buildings and structures.
For undergraduates, jobs are available in various government departments such as Indian Army, Town and Country Planning Organization, National Institute of Urban Affairs, Housing and Urban Development Corporation, National Building Construction Corporation Ltd. etc. Teaching and research at several reputed institutes are highly rewarding. A career in academics essentially requires a doctoral degree after postgraduate studies. Private sector jobs are highly concentrated in firms like Jones Lang LaSalle, L&T, Jindals, IMAXE, etc. Private practices post registrations are equally recognized in residential townships. After successful completion of Architectural engineering students are also employed in industrial ventures, consultancy and private architectural firms, teaching institutions, real estate development firms etc. The difference between required versus registered architects is more than 4 lakhs! A qualified architect can also work as consultant or set up private practice. Before starting the profession, an architect must have to register with the Council of Architecture. The Council of Architecture plays a stupendous role for smooth regulation of architect education and practice throughout India. Along with the Indian Institute of Architects, the Council of Architecture also lays down the guidelines for working hours, work environment, fees etc.
